Country Cottage
Although the house had an ‘old charm’ feel we were keen not to follow a traditional pastiche but to bring a contemporary slant to the borders. Informal planting of mainly perennial and ornamental grasses drifts loosely across the garden and forms a link with the context. Green oak sleepers retain the planted banks and relaxing intimate seating areas nestle in the soft vegetation. The crab apple, Malus ‘Evereste’ laden with fruit in the first year, provided immediate height.
This planting grows gently in height towards the woodland – decorative to finger tip height and then looser and grassier.
